 IT was so glorious out in the country; it was summer; the cornfields were yellow, the oats were green, the hay had been put up in stacks in the green meadows, and the stork went about on his long red legs, and chattered Egyptian, for this was the language he had learned from his good mother. All around the fields and meadows were great forests, and in the midst of these forests lay deep lakes. Yes, it was right glorious out in the country. In the midst of the sunshine there lay an old farm, with deep canals about it, and from the wall down to the water grew great burdocks, so high that little children could stand upright under the loftiest of them. It was just as wild there as in the deepest wood, and here sat a Duck upon her nest; she had to hatch her ducklings; but she was almost tired out before the little ones came; and then she so seldom had visitors. The other ducks liked better to swim about in the canals than to run up to sit down under a burdock, and cackle with her.   1

درباره هانس کریستن آندرسن

 About the Author

Hans Christian Andersen was born in the slums of Odense. His father was a shoemaker and literate. His mother, who worked as washerwoman, was             uneducated and superstitious, but opened for his son the world of folklore. Andersen's half-sister worked    as  a prostitute for a time. Andersen received little     education, and as a child he was highly emotional, suffering all kinds of fears and humiliations because of his tallness and effeminate interests. Andersen's          hysterical attacks of cramps were falsely diagnosed as  epileptic fits. Encouraged by his mother he composed  his own fairy tales and arrange puppet theatre shows

در این پست بخشی از کتاب " بگو مگوی انگلیسی " آورده ام که اشاره دارد به پاره ای از اشتباه های رایج در استفاده از زبان انگلیسی:

Take an examination  نه Give an eaxamination 

( امتحان دادن ) 

مگو:   The pupil gave his examination

بگو:   The pupil took his examination  ( شاگرد امتحان خود را داد. )

Pay attention  نه Give attention 

( توجه داشتن - دقت کردن )

مگو:    He never gives attention to me

بگو :    He never pays attention to me    ( وی هرگز به من توجه نمی کند. )

To be busy  نه  To have work

( کار داشتن - مشغول بودن )

مگو:    I have much work this morning   

بگو :    I am very busy this morning  ( من امروز صبح بسیار کار دارم. "بسیار مشغولم" )

اما می توانیم بگوییم:  I have a lot of work to do this morning

Go on foot نه  Go with the foot

( پیاده رفتن )

مگو:  Shall we go there with the foot

بگو :    Shall we go there on foot  ( آیا پیاده به آن جا خواهیم رفت ؟ )

Make a mistake  نه  Do a mistake

( اشتباه کردن - غلط داشتن در )

مگو:   I did one mistake in dictation

بگو :    I made one mistake in dictation  ( من در دیکته یک غلط داشتم. )
